The Damyang County Council in Jeollanam-do announced on the 3rd that it adopted the "Resolution Strongly Condemning Japan's Decision to Discharge Contaminated Water from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and Urging the Government to Actively Respond," which was proposed by Councilor Park Eun-seo at the 2nd plenary session of the 1st regular meeting of the 320th session held on the 27th of last month.
Through the resolution, the council strongly condemned the Japanese government's decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, criticizing the Korean government's immature response that deviates from the essence of the issue and only increases public anxiety. The council demanded that all information regarding the treatment methods and the impact of the discharge be transparently disclosed.
Furthermore, the resolution urged that "the Japanese government immediately withdraw its decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water, which threatens humanity," "seek international consensus through transparent disclosure of information related to radioactive contaminated water and consult with neighboring countries," and "the government prioritize the safety of its citizens and actively respond to Japan's decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant by employing all diplomatic means and methods."
Councilor Park stated, "Japan's discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant is an international criminal act that contaminates not only our country's waters but the entire world's oceans through ocean currents, plunging the world into disaster. Our government must prioritize the safety of its citizens and respond strongly."
