KOSHA, Industrial Safety and Health Month Exhibition and Experience
Innovation through Activation of Demand-Linked Safety Technology Dissemination
The latest technologies designed to prevent fatal accidents such as falls and electric shocks in industrial workplaces were showcased, attracting attention.
The 2023 Industrial Safety and Health Month, organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (Minister Lee Jeong-sik) and hosted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA, President Ahn Jong-joo), featured the International Safety and Health Exhibition (KISS 2023).
The KOSHA Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute (Director Kim Eun-ah) presented a set of three newly developed safety technologies through industrial safety research: ▷K-Ladder, ▷Smart Fall Prevention Device, and ▷Earth Fault Circuit Interrupter, all exhibited at the special fall accident promotion pavilion.
The K-Ladder is a Korean-style safety ladder specialized for safety that can replace the A-type ladder to prevent fatal accidents. It features an active outrigger that automatically stabilizes according to the terrain and objects on the ground, designed to prevent tipping accidents. There are two types: a single-type product that maximizes lightweight design and an adjustable product that allows work at various heights.
The Smart Fall Prevention Device utilizes IoT technology to prevent fall accidents during suspended scaffold work by addressing previous issues such as heavy weight and slipping during work. It enables real-time monitoring of whether workers are wearing the fall prevention device and the status of the work site.
The Earth Fault Circuit Interrupter (RCD Type B) is an integrated device with a sensor (Flux Gate), signal processing unit, and interrupter built into the circuit breaker. It detects and interrupts complex leakage currents such as direct current, pulsating current, and high frequency, which conventional leakage circuit breakers (ELB) cannot control or manage. This enhances prevention of electric shock accidents in industrial sites using various electrical equipment.
Director Kim Eun-ah stated, “To prevent fatal accidents from falls and electric shocks in industrial workplaces, the use of new safety technologies must expand starting from the public sector,” adding, “We will ensure early dissemination of these innovative fall and electric shock defense safety technologies to contribute to reducing fatal accidents.”
