Gwangyang City Launches Comprehensive Inspection of Baegunsan's Four Major Valleys

Illegal Garbage Dumping Crackdown, Focused Management of Public Restrooms

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that from July 17 to August 18, it will intensively conduct crackdowns on illegal dumping of trash around the Baegunsan Four Major Valleys and inspections of public restroom cleaning to provide tourists seeking relief from the summer heat with a clean and pleasant environment.

Unlike last year, the city plans to proactively strengthen environmental maintenance around the valleys, anticipating a large number of visitors after the COVID-19 endemic.

Accordingly, all employees of the city's Resource Circulation Division will be organized into four teams to conduct patrols, crackdowns, and inspections at least once a day.

Specifically, in the Baegunsan Four Major Valleys (Bonggang, Okryong, Jinsang, and Daap-myeon), the city plans to hire temporary workers for roadside cleaning and maintenance, expand the frequency of household waste collection, crack down on illegal dumping, increase cleaning of 99 public restrooms, and conduct special inspections of 24 facilities that discharge large amounts of wastewater.

Hwang Gwang-jin, head of the Resource Circulation Division, said, "Although there were not many visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year, with the early onset of the heatwave and the increasing number of tourists visiting the Baegunsan Four Major Valleys, complaints related to household waste have risen significantly. We will do our best to maintain the clean valleys by strengthening environmental beautification around the valleys."
