The delegation's visit to Korea is reported to be part of the expanding economic cooperation between the two countries, following last month's decision for joint support by Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for the Los Chorros Bridge construction and road expansion project in El Salvador.

The Los Chorros project involves road expansion and the construction of a bypass bridge in a collapse-prone area, connecting San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, with the western region. Of the total project cost of $430 million (approximately 560 billion KRW), the EDCF and CABEI are each providing $210 million and $200 million in support. In March, Dongbu Construction, an affiliate of HJ Heavy Industries, was selected as the contractor for this project.

The delegation included Sigfredo Edgardo Figueroa, Director of Strategic Planning at the Office of the President, Raul Castaneda, Head of CABEI El Salvador, and Jaime Jose Lopez, Ambassador of El Salvador to Korea.

HJ Heavy Industries, Korea's first shipyard, introduced its accumulated know-how and technological capabilities gained through the construction and operation of shipyards in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Subic, Philippines, covering its two main business sectors: construction and shipbuilding.

An official from HJ Heavy Industries stated, "We hope that the accumulated experience and technological capabilities of HJ Heavy Industries, the birthplace of Korea's shipbuilding industry, will greatly contribute to the El Salvador shipyard project, and we look forward to deepening cooperation and trust between the two countries."
