Suwon-si Introduces Pilot 'System to Minimize Duplicate Statements' in Child Abuse Investigations

Suwon-si Introduces Pilot 'System to Minimize Duplicate Statements' in Child Abuse Investigations Suwon City will pilot the 'System to Minimize Duplicate Statements in Child Abuse Investigations' starting July 1. Earlier, on the 29th, Suwon City held a briefing session on the system at the Suwon Jungbu Police Station.

The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will pilot the 'Child Abuse Investigation Redundant Testimony Minimization System' starting July 1 to prevent secondary harm to abused children caused by repeated testimonies.

On the 30th, Suwon City announced that it will operate the 'Child Abuse Investigation Redundant Testimony Minimization System' for child abuse cases occurring within the jurisdiction of the Suwon Seobu Police Station until December.

The Child Abuse Investigation Redundant Testimony Minimization System aims to prevent abused children from repeatedly testifying to multiple investigative agencies, thereby reducing their distress.

Until now, child abuse investigations involved police dispatch to the scene at code 0 (highest emergency level) or code 1 within stages 0 to 4 after the incident occurred. Suwon City's Child Protection Team would also dispatch if child separation was necessary or if the scene was a group living facility and the police requested accompaniment.

However, after the system's introduction, when the investigation team is dispatched to the scene of a suspected child abuse case, the Child Protection Team will accompany them.

The previous method where the police investigation team and the Child Protection Team separately investigated the abused child will also change. To prevent the victim child from repeating their testimony, a dedicated official will visit and investigate together with the investigation team when the victim child and the suspected perpetrator are questioned at the police station.

On the 29th, Suwon City held a briefing session on the Redundant Testimony Minimization System at the open conference room of the Suwon Seobu Police Station. Attendees included officials from Suwon City, Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, Gyeonggi Nambu Sunflower Center, and Suwon Seobu Police Station (including local police substations and patrol units).

A Suwon City official emphasized, "By operating the Child Abuse Investigation Redundant Testimony Minimization System, we will improve the efficiency of child abuse investigations and reduce secondary harm to abused children."
