At the monthly meeting held at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on the 29th, Prosecutor General Lee emphasized, "It is the prosecution's duty to look into what ordinary people worry about in their daily lives, respond strictly to those risks, protect the basic rights such as the safety and property of the people, and enable peace in everyday life."
He added, "Regarding parents' concerns that their children might be exposed to drug-laced drinks and become addicted, we must respond strictly centered on the Special Investigation Headquarters and thoroughly prepare treatment and rehabilitation measures without any gaps."
Prosecutor General Lee also instructed strict measures against crimes involving the overseas leakage of industrial technology. He pointed out, "Crimes involving the overseas leakage of industrial technology are serious offenses that go beyond threatening corporate survival; they destroy national security, competitiveness, and ultimately the future of our people. Crimes that infringe on intellectual property, which is like a goose that lays golden eggs, and leak industrial technology are no different from stealing the goose that lays golden eggs and cutting its belly open."
He continued, "To overcome the reality where the level of punishment is low compared to the seriousness of the crime, resulting in insufficient deterrence and prevention, we have strengthened case handling and sentencing standards. Together with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, we plan to widely publicize the seriousness of the issue and revise sentencing guidelines at the Supreme Court. I hope you will strive to enhance inter-agency cooperation and professional capabilities to respond efficiently and timely to the covert and organized technology leakage crimes."
