June 30th, 2 PM at City Hall, 'English' Presentation Contest
Busan City, the 2030 Busan World Expo Citizens' Committee (Executive Chair Park Eun-ha, hereinafter referred to as the Citizens' Committee), and the 2030 Busan World Expo Women's Promotion Council (Co-representatives: Choi Hyo-ja, Kim Young-sook, Jeon Hyun-sook, Jo Gyu-ok, Yoo Soon-hee, hereinafter referred to as the Women's Promotion Council) will hold the ‘Expo English Speech Contest’ to pray for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo on June 30 at 2 p.m. in the City Hall International Conference Hall.
This contest is designed for citizens to passionately express their hopes for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo, the significance of the event, expected effects, and the role of citizens in English, a language used worldwide, aiming to spread support for the bid both domestically and internationally.
The event will proceed in the following order: ▲Pre-event (promotional video and Expo dance) ▲Opening performance ▲Encouragement speeches (by Deputy Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon and co-representatives of the Women's Promotion Council) ▲Final round (university division and general division) ▲Announcement of results ▲Awards ceremony. About 200 people, including finalists, Deputy Mayor Ahn Byung-yoon, Busan City’s special female advisor, members of the Women's Promotion Council, and citizens, will attend to listen to the finalists' presentations and cheer for the bid together.
Sixteen finalists (8 from the university division and 8 from the general division), who passed the preliminary round held from the 1st to the 11th through video submission and evaluation, will participate in the final round. Given the enthusiastic competition in the preliminary round with many applicants, high-quality presentations that touch the hearts of citizens are expected.
In particular, the city explained that the intense competition in the preliminary round reflects the increased nationwide interest in the 2030 Busan World Expo bid, as the charm and outstanding capabilities of Busan, South Korea, have been widely recognized through on-site inspections by the International Exhibitions Bureau and other preparations.
After the final contest, thorough judging will award the grand prize, excellence award, merit award, Citizens' Committee award, and Women's Promotion Council award in both the university and general divisions. Participants who do not receive awards will also be given participation prizes.
The event will be simultaneously interpreted in Korean and broadcast live on the city’s internet channel, Bada TV. The broadcast video will also be posted later on Busan City’s official YouTube channel.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon stated, “Through this contest, we expect the passionate voices of citizens wishing for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo to be conveyed more effectively worldwide,” adding, “Until the bid decision in November, our city will discover and hold various events that allow citizens to voluntarily participate, doing our best to broaden domestic and international consensus for the bid.”
