Dongjak-gu Supports Sports Classes for Vulnerable Children and Adolescents

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Ilha) is continuously recruiting members for the ‘Sports Activity Voucher’ program to support vulnerable children and adolescents who face economic difficulties in participating in sports activities.

The ‘Sports Activity Voucher’ is a sports voucher project implemented by Dongjak-gu with funding from the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the Lottery Commission, and support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

By selecting desired courses from affiliated sports facilities, members can receive up to 95,000 KRW per month in tuition support for one year.

The support targets children and adolescents aged 5 to 18 from basic livelihood security households and near-poverty groups. Eligible individuals for this year are those born between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2018.

Additionally, although children with disabilities who are not from low-income families were previously ineligible, starting next year they will be able to receive support through the ‘Disability Sports Activity Voucher’ program.

The district is expanding affiliated facilities so that members can access various sports near their residences. Currently, 74 public and private facilities offer lessons in Taekwondo, swimming, Pilates, boxing, soccer, tennis, climbing, and more.

For students who find it difficult to use sports courses for a full month due to academic or other reasons, short-term sports experiences such as horseback riding, water sports, and skiing are also planned.

Students or guardians wishing to use the Sports Activity Voucher can apply by visiting the local community service center under their resident registration jurisdiction or the Dongjak-gu Office’s Sports Policy Division, or by contacting the person in charge via email.

For more detailed information, inquiries can be made to the consultation center or the Sports Policy Division.

Mayor Park Ilha of Dongjak-gu said, “We hope this project will expand sports participation opportunities for children and adolescents,” adding, “We will continue to actively develop support projects for the healthy growth of children, who are the future leaders.”
