A case of unreported birth of an infant has occurred in Cheonan, Chungnam, and the police are investigating.

The National Police Agency announced on the 27th that an additional unreported birth case in Cheonan, Chungnam, has been added, bringing the total number of cases under investigation to 12. So far, the police have received 16 investigation requests from local governments, closed 4 cases, and are currently investigating 12 cases.


By type of cases under investigation, there are ▲ 2 deaths (Suwon) ▲ 5 cases with unknown whereabouts (Hwaseong, Suwon, Anseong, Cheonan Seobuk, etc.) ▲ 5 cases where whereabouts are confirmed but neglect is suspected (Anseong, Osan, Hwaseong Dongtan, Suwon Jungbu).


The National Police Agency has a policy to immediately investigate upon receiving investigation requests from local governments. In addition to simple unreported birth cases, they will thoroughly investigate individual cases if related issues are found.


A National Police Agency official stated the day before, "We will strictly investigate not only simple unreported birth cases but also general domestic violence and child abuse cases."


Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Board of Audit and Inspection, a total of 2,236 infants were not registered for birth over the past eight years from 2015 to last year.
