Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Ju-ho, hereinafter KHNP) held a groundbreaking ceremony for site preparation work at the Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 construction site on the 26th, with related government departments, local governments, and local residents in attendance.
On the 26th, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power held a groundbreaking ceremony for the site preparation work at the Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 construction site, attended by relevant government departments, local governments, and local residents.
Site preparation involves stabilizing the ground before full-scale construction begins. The event proceeded with commemorative and congratulatory speeches, followed by an inspection of the site preparation area.
Construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4, which was halted in 2017, was decided to resume last July as part of the government's energy policy direction. Subsequently, with its inclusion in the 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand, the construction project has been progressing rapidly, including the signing of the main equipment contract in March.
On the 16th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy approved the implementation plan for the Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 project in accordance with the Power Development Promotion Act.
President Hwang Ju-ho of KHNP stated, “As we enter full-scale preparations for the construction of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4, we will prioritize safety in carrying out the work, promptly proceed with the ordering of auxiliary equipment and contracts for main equipment construction, and contribute to the swift normalization of the nuclear power ecosystem and revitalization of the local economy.”
The construction permit review process for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 is currently underway. Once the review is completed and the construction permit is obtained from the regulatory authority, full-scale construction such as foundational excavation for reactor facility installation will commence.
