Mercury, Smart Home Activation Standardization Workshop... Matter Device Demonstration

Mercury, a specialized information and communication equipment company, and Ejex announced on the 26th that they held an event to introduce and demonstrate Ejex's smart home Internet of Things (IoT) products and Mercury's Matter devices under development at the 'Standardization Workshop for Smart Home Activation.'

This event was jointly hosted and organized by the Korea AI Smart Home Industry Association, the Information Technology Equipment Interconnection Technical Committee (ISO/IEC JTC1 SC25), and the National Institute of Technology and Standards. It was arranged to discuss standardization measures for smart home activation and to promote the development of related industries.

At the event, Mercury introduced the functions and features of the Matter devices and showcased a smart home demonstration using the Matter devices under development. Matter is a new international standard developed to enhance compatibility among smart home devices, and Mercury is leading the development and distribution of Matter devices.

Ejex, a subsidiary of Mercury, is a specialized company in smart home IoT equipment, platform development, and operation, collaborating with Mercury to develop and distribute Matter devices.

A Mercury representative stated, “Through this event, we aim to highlight the excellence of Matter devices, contribute to the future activation of smart homes, and become an industry leader with our differentiated proactive response technology.” He added, “Mercury plans to lead the distribution of Matter devices through demonstrations in the smart home market, which is expected to exceed 100 trillion won this year.”

Matter is a home IoT communication standard based on the Internet Protocol (IP). Global companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Google, Amazon, and Apple are participating, and IoT devices that previously operated only with their own apps can now be integrated into one through Matter devices.

Until now, consumers had to check individually whether smart home IoT products were compatible with Amazon’s ‘Alexa’ or Google’s ‘Google Home’ whenever they purchased them. However, with the use of Matter, such inconveniences will be reduced. Products certified with Matter can be connected to any manufacturer’s IoT platform, including Samsung, Google, and Apple.
