According to multiple foreign media outlets, the U.S. government appeared to have known since the 21st that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner, was preparing military actions targeting the Russian military leadership.

The New York Times (NYT), citing officials involved in the matter, reported this. Considering that Wagner's rebellion began on the 23rd, the U.S. had prior knowledge two days before the event.

Another foreign media outlet also reported that U.S. authorities obtained such intelligence and shared it with the White House and relevant departments. However, they did not know the exact nature and timing of Prigozhin's plan until just before the execution.

The Wagner Group, blaming the Russian Ministry of Defense, launched an armed rebellion on the night of the 23rd, starting from the southern Rostov military base and advancing toward Moscow. They closed in to within just 200 km of Moscow, but the situation was resolved after Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko intervened as a mediator.
