Lycom participates in German laser exhibition... 'LiDAR sensor foothold for European market entry'

Lycom is participating in a laser industry exhibition held in Europe to promote its entry into the European autonomous driving market.

On the 23rd, Lycom announced that it will participate in the ‘LASER World of PHOTONICS,’ one of the world's largest laser industry exhibitions held in Europe. The company aims to establish a foothold in the European market for various core laser-related products, including autonomous driving LiDAR laser sensors.

LASER World of PHOTONICS is a global exhibition in the field of optics and laser technology, taking place in Munich, Germany, from the 27th to the 30th. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the exhibition, which showcases new technologies and products in optics, lasers, and optoelectronics. It serves as a platform to share the latest trends and applications of optical technology across various industries.

Lycom will set up an independent booth to introduce various core laser-related products, led by the ultra-compact ‘Pulsed Fiber Laser’ for autonomous driving LiDAR sensors, as well as ‘High-Power Fiber Lasers’ and ‘Pulsed Optical Amplifiers.’

The ultra-compact pulsed fiber laser minimizes the size and power consumption of LiDAR lasers by utilizing Lycom’s proprietary optical amplification technology. Using a 1550-nanometer wavelength, which is harmless to the human eye, it is evaluated as suitable for vehicle autonomous driving LiDAR in terms of size, performance, and specifications. The high-power fiber laser can be applied in various industrial fields such as steel plate welding, cutting, coating, and marking. Recently, it has gained attention as it has begun to be used in manufacturing processes in the secondary battery sector.

In addition to fiber lasers, Lycom will also showcase optical amplifier products applicable to the optical sensor field. According to the company, these products are used in optical sensing systems and can be applied in various industries, including wind power turbine direction control and monitoring the condition of underground water and sewage pipes.

A Lycom representative stated, "The pulsed fiber laser is the first product commercialized by a domestic company as a LiDAR laser sensor for autonomous driving," and added, "We recently supplied initial test quantities to the North American market through a global leading autonomous driving LiDAR company."

He continued, "Starting with this exhibition, we will build networks with several autonomous driving LiDAR companies in Europe," and added, "We will strengthen business partnering to ensure that Lycom’s laser-related technologies spread not only in autonomous driving but also across a wider range of industrial fields in Europe."
