Bicycle Traffic Accident Injuries Up 153%... Special Crackdown on Traffic Law Violations

Signal Violation, Wrong-Way Driving, and Drunk Driving Crackdown

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 25th that it will conduct a special crackdown on traffic violations involving two-wheeled vehicles, bicycles, and others for two months from the 26th of this month to August 27.

The main violations targeted are signal violations, wrong-way driving, drunk driving, and driving without a license.

This special crackdown is a response to a 153% increase in traffic accident injuries involving bicycles and personal mobility devices (PM) over the past three months compared to the previous three months.

The Seoul Police analyzed that "as the weather gets warmer, outdoor activities by citizens increase, and the expanded use of shared mobility devices (Ddareungi·PM) in nightlife districts during late hours appears to be the cause."

The police plan to prevent two-wheeled vehicle traffic accidents through various methods, including holding meetings with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and shared PM companies, and producing and distributing PM safety rule leaflets.

The Seoul Police urged, "Since the driver's body is directly exposed on the road, accidents often lead to fatal injuries," and requested, "Please comply with traffic laws and drive safely."
