The long-delayed Gyeongbu Bomun Resort project, which has been stalled for over 20 years, has officially commenced.
The Bomun Resort Land Readjustment Association (Chairman Idalwoo) announced on the 22nd at 10:30 AM at the Hilton Hotel in Gyeongju city center that the development project covering approximately 237,000 pyeong has begun, with participation from Gyeongju City Hall, the development executor and agency Land One, and consulting firms.
As the development project of Gyeongju Bomun Resort officially begins, representatives from the association, service companies, and developers are gathered together for a commemorative photo.
After receiving conditional approval from the Cultural Heritage Administration for changes in the site conditions due to difficulties in cultural heritage excavation, the project has now officially started.
This area was designated as Bomun Resort by the Ministry of Construction in February 1972, re-designated as a hot spring district by Gyeongbuk Province in December 1991, and approved as an urban planning facility with an implementation plan in 2002.
However, due to the Cheongunsaji Pagoda being a cultural asset, the development project was delayed for over 20 years, but in November 2022, conditional approval for site changes was obtained from the Cultural Heritage Administration.
On this day, Namkyung Engineering (CEO Yoon Taeyeol), the consulting firm, stated that the development plan is expected to receive approval from Gyeongju City by the end of June 2024 after going through changes in the development plan and implementation plan, aiming for land readjustment approval.
Chairman Idalwoo said, "The association has repeatedly proposed to Gyeongju City not only the difficult cultural heritage site changes but also the relaxation of the building coverage ratio from 20% to 30% in the resort area. As a result, it was decided that the ordinance would be amended by the Gyeongju City Council around July. This will greatly contribute to revitalizing tourism in the resort and increasing the property value of the association members, which is very rewarding."
Land One (CEO Kwon Omin), the executor and agency of the development zone, announced plans to build a hotel and residence hotel with about 600 rooms within the development zone, coinciding with Gyeongju City's efforts to attract the APEC Summit scheduled for 2025.
On this day, many company representatives, including those aiming to introduce a cable car near Bomun Resort and those involved in building tourism infrastructure such as accommodations, also attended.
