The police have launched an investigation into a man in his 30s, an employee of a local Nonghyup in Seoul, who embezzled over 200 million won of company funds.
On the 21st, the Geumcheon Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked and are investigating Mr. A, a man in his 30s working at a Nonghyup in Geumcheon-gu, on charges of embezzlement.
Mr. A, who was in charge of cash handling, is suspected of embezzling 235 million won from the company safe since the 2nd of this month.
After turning himself in to the police, Mr. A reportedly stated that he lost all the stolen money on online sports gambling.
The police have imposed a travel ban on Mr. A and plan to determine the exact amount embezzled and its usage through account seizures and searches.
The Nonghyup in Geumcheon-gu has placed Mr. A on administrative leave, and the Nonghyup Central Association plans to conduct an internal audit, citing negligence in the branch's 'cash inspection' to verify whether the cash on hand matches the ledger amounts.
