Public Hearing on Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment for Continued Operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 to Be Held

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters will hold public hearings for the draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report on the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 from July 10 to 14.


This draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report contains information on the environmental impact and safety of radiation due to the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4.


Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power conducted a public review of the draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report from April to May and collected opinions from residents in the target areas regarding requests to hold public hearings during the review period.


The upcoming public hearings will be held in four regions, divided by area, for 13 local governments including Busan (Gijang-gun, Haeundae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Dongnae-gu, Suyeong-gu, Nam-gu, Dong-gu), Ulsan (Ulju-gun, Jung-gu, Nam-gu, Buk-gu, Dong-gu), and Yangsan, in accordance with the Nuclear Safety Act and related laws.


Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power plans to submit the final Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report, which reflects the opinions collected at the public hearings and those received during the prior public review, to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission for examination.

Lee Kwang-hoon, head of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, “We hope this public hearing will be an opportunity for residents to understand the radiation environmental impact and safety related to the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4.”


He added, “We will actively reflect the valuable opinions of residents in the Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report to ensure that the continued operation of Gori Units 3 and 4 is carried out based on the trust of the public.”


Residents wishing to make statements at the public hearings must complete and submit the relevant forms at least five days before the hearings. Detailed procedures and related information about making statements can be confirmed through the local governments in charge or the Gori Nuclear Power Headquarters call center.
