Yellow Envelope Act May Be Addressed in June Special Session
The Democratic Party of Korea adopted the 'Itaewon Disaster Truth-finding Special Act (Itaewon Special Act)' as its party policy. The Democratic Party decided to designate the Itaewon Special Act as a fast-track bill at the plenary session on the 30th.
Lee So-young, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, conveyed this to reporters after the policy meeting on the same day. She said, "There was an unfortunate incident where many citizens lost their lives without knowing the reason," adding, "So far, there has been no progress on the issues that the bereaved families and the public want. Considering various conditions within the National Assembly that make it difficult for this special act to pass if it is not designated as a fast-track bill by the plenary session within June."

Kim Han-gyu, another Democratic Party floor spokesperson, said, "The designation as a fast-track bill means setting a deadline for the ruling and opposition parties to quickly negotiate and process it, but the content has not been finalized yet," adding, "Ultimately, we will create a bill that can be approved through negotiations between the ruling and opposition parties." This indicates that while the fast-track processing policy has been decided, there remains room for negotiation regarding the content.
The possibility of processing the Yellow Envelope Act (amendments to Articles 2 and 3 of the Labor Union Act) was also left open. Lee said, "There is a possibility it will be processed at the plenary session on the 30th. It has not been finalized yet, but the leadership is considering it that way."
Earlier, Park Kwang-on, the Democratic Party floor leader, stated in his remarks at the policy meeting, "Today, a letter of cooperation will be sent to Pacific island countries in the name of the party leader (Lee Jae-myung), myself, and all Democratic Party lawmakers." Regarding this, Lee mentioned, "Today, a letter of cooperation will be sent to Pacific island countries in the name of the party leader (Lee Jae-myung), myself, and all Democratic Party lawmakers," adding, "We will also promote solidarity with parliamentary leaders opposing the discharge in Japan, civic groups, and Southeast Asia."
Meanwhile, at the policy meeting on the same day, lawmaker Jung Chun-sook was appointed as the chief policy deputy representative.
