Local Relay Seminar Held
Reflected in Comprehensive Media Education Plan
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) is hosting a special media literacy seminar, jointly organized by the Korea Communications Agency and the Korean Society for Broadcasting Studies, which will be held on the 21st at the Seoul Viewer Media Center.
This seminar was prepared to diagnose the current status of media education professionals in Korea and find improvement measures. Professor Shim Jae-woong of Sookmyung Women's University will present on "The Current Status and Diagnosis of Media Education Professionals in Korea," and Dr. Shin Sam-su of Sungkyunkwan University will present on "Achievements and Challenges of the Viewer Media Center for Enhancing Media Literacy." The comprehensive discussion will include Professor Park Jin-woo of Konkuk University, Senior Researcher Lee Chang-ho of the Korea Youth Policy Institute, and instructor Kim Hyun-joo of the Gyeonggi Viewer Media Center.
This event is the first in a relay seminar series themed "Qualitative Growth of Media Education in Korea." Follow-up discussions will continue in September at the Gwangju Viewer Media Center (Seo-gu), in October at the Ulsan (Buk-gu) and Gangwon (Chuncheon) Viewer Media Centers. In December, the final seminar will be held with participation from the Korean Political Communication Association.
The KCC plans to comprehensively review the opinions gathered from academia and experts through the seminar and reflect them in the "Comprehensive Media Education Plan" to be established in the second half of this year. Through this, they aim to successfully implement the national policy task of "Media Education for All Citizens Across the Life Cycle."
