Public Urination in Elevator at Seoul Apartment Complex
"Elevator Malfunction Directly Threatens Lives" Repair Cost 3 Million Won
The culprit was neither a young child nor a pet. The identity of an adult man who urinated in an elevator of an apartment in Seoul has been revealed, sparking public attention.
On the 20th, a photo of a notice posted inside an elevator of an apartment complex in Seoul was uploaded to an online community. The notice stated, "Elevator malfunctions are serious accidents directly related to human safety," and mentioned a recent urination incident.
According to the apartment management office, a malfunction occurred due to urination inside the elevator in the early morning of April 28. This led to elevator repairs, causing inconvenience to residents, and reportedly incurred repair costs exceeding 3 million won.
The released elevator CCTV footage clearly showed an adult man wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts standing in the corner of the elevator while urinating. The management office stated, "Since the individual did not voluntarily report the incident, we had no choice but to request a police investigation and disclose his face."
Until now, most urination incidents in elevators were caused by pets, so netizens criticized the fact that an adult man committed such an act. Comments included, "This is something no sane person would do," "A nuisance act that shows no consideration for others," "Is the elevator his own bathroom?" and "This is news you only hear from China."
In fact, in China, there was an incident where a 10-year-old boy was caught on CCTV repeatedly urinating in an apartment elevator. In another apartment, a boy urinated on all the elevator buttons, causing a short circuit that stopped the elevator and trapped people inside.
Meanwhile, according to the Minor Offenses Act, urinating or defecating on streets, parks, or other places where many people gather or pass by is classified as public urination and is punishable by a fine, detention, or penalty not exceeding 100,000 won.
