Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom Visits Facilities Flooded by Typhoon Chaba

Facility Inspection and Encouragement of Natural Disaster Risk Improvement Project

Ahead of the full-scale rainy season, Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom will conduct an on-site inspection of disaster preparedness facilities on the 21st.

This inspection was arranged to prevent flood and wind damage in advance, as abnormal weather is expected this summer due to the development of El Ni?o, which may bring heavy rain and strong typhoons to the southern regions.

At 3:30 PM on the same day, Mayor Kim will visit the Naehwang drainage pump station, which suffered significant flooding damage from the previous typhoon ‘Chaba,’ to focus on checking the facility’s operational status, the normal functioning of electrical and equipment systems, and the progress of the Naehwang Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District project.

He will also urge the staff to do their best in operating the drainage pump station to prevent flooding damage similar to that caused by Typhoon Chaba and encourage the prompt advancement of the Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District project, designated in August 2021.

Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom of Ulsan said, “Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent every year due to intensified climate change, causing unexpected damage, so thorough prior preparation is necessary. I will carefully review safety measures for vulnerable facilities to protect the precious lives and property of citizens.”

At 4:30 PM on the 22nd, Deputy Mayor Seo Jeong-wook will visit the Ok-dong stormwater detention facility and Samsan drainage station in Nam-gu to conduct additional inspections of disaster response measures for the summer season.

Earlier, Ulsan City has been fully preparing for summer disasters by conducting comprehensive inspections and operational drills at 27 drainage pump stations within the jurisdiction in late May and early June.
