Ministry of Education Announces 20 Built-Type Schools and 20 Advanced-Type Schools
The Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education announced the selection results of universities participating in the 2nd cycle of the Lifelong Education System Support Project for Universities (LiFE 2.0, hereinafter referred to as Life 2.0) on the 21st.
Life 2.0 is a project aimed at creating an adult learner-friendly university culture by expanding adult learners' access to universities and supporting the advancement of lifelong education systems within universities, based on the achievements of the 1st cycle Life (2019?2022).
Universities participating in Life 2.0 will support the enhancement of adult learners' capabilities through the establishment and operation of dedicated departments for adult learners, installation of learning support centers for adult learners, and flexibilization of academic systems.
In particular, this project newly established the ‘Metropolitan Local Government Linked Type,’ which is jointly carried out by one metropolitan local government and two general universities, actively reflecting the demands of the region and adult learners, and enabling universities to function as ‘Regional Lifelong Education Centers.’ Life 2.0 will be supported for two years from this year to next year, and will later be integrated and operated within the Regional Innovation-centered University Support System (RISE).
Looking at the selection results, first, for the ‘Lifelong Education System Establishment Type,’ which begins to prepare an adult learner-friendly university system, 8 general universities and 12 junior colleges were selected. For the ‘Lifelong Education System Advancement Type,’ which enhances the existing dedicated adult learner programs, 12 general universities and 8 junior colleges were selected, and 5 consortia were selected for the ‘Metropolitan Local Government Linked Type.’ The selected universities will each receive project funding of approximately 1 billion KRW on average.
Choi Eun-hee, Director of the Talent Policy Office at the Ministry of Education, said, “Through the 2nd cycle of the Lifelong Education System Support Project for Universities, we hope adult learners can improve their capabilities and that the region and universities can grow together.” She added, “In particular, we expect universities to perform their role as lifelong education hubs in the region based on cooperation between metropolitan local governments and general universities.”
