Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gijae) announced that it will expand the installation of 207 ‘Residential Safety Smart Security Lights’ at 203 locations in Mok 2·3-dong and Sinjeong 4-dong to enhance nighttime safety for vulnerable groups such as single-person households.

The smart security lights brighten when residents who have installed the Ansimi app approach, and in emergency situations, shaking the mobile phone causes the lights to blink, alerting the surroundings to the danger.

The district started the ‘Residential Safety Smart Security Lights’ installation project in 2021, installing 399 units in the residential safety zones of Sinwol 3-dong and Sinjeong 4-dong. Last year, 130 units were installed in Sinwol 7-dong through a citizen contest, currently operating a total of 529 smart security lights.

This year, three areas with a high concentration of vulnerable groups such as single-person households were selected in cooperation with the Yangcheon Police Station. The district will install and operate smart security lights at a total of 203 locations by September this year: 74 locations in Mok 2-dong (Gonghang-daero 594?630), 32 locations in Mok 3-dong (Gonghang-daero 530?Deungchon-ro 146), and 97 locations in Sinjeong 4-dong (Omok-ro 35-gil 22?Omok-ro 203).

The smart security lights are IoT (Internet of Things) enabled lighting that uses near field communication networks to link with the Ansimi app, a safe return home support application.

When walking at night with the Ansimi app running in areas where the security lights are installed, the lights automatically brighten when approaching within 10 to 20 meters, helping to secure the surrounding visibility.

In addition, in an emergency, shaking the mobile phone causes the smart security lights to blink while activating the ‘Emergency Report’ function of the Ansimi app, which immediately connects to the Yangcheon-gu Integrated Control Center and on-duty police officers. The responding police and nearby pedestrians can quickly identify the reporter’s location through the blinking lights.

Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We will continue to actively introduce smart technology into administrative areas to create a safe urban environment where residents can live without fear of crime.”
