According to this menu, the detention center provides three meals a day?breakfast, lunch, and dinner?with a variety of dishes ranging from representative Korean meals such as seaweed soup, soybean paste stew, and kimchi stew to single-dish meals like beef rice cake soup and curry, as well as Western-style meals including cream soup, morning bread, salad, jam, and beverages. Occasionally, probiotic drinks and soy milk are also provided, and on Saturday lunches, ice cream and corn are alternately supplied each week.
Besides Jeong Yoo-jeong, the Busan Detention Center is also known to house the so-called "Busan Roundhouse Kick Man," an assailant involved in a random assault case.
Netizens have expressed outrage upon seeing this meal plan. Particularly, there is strong dissatisfaction that socially marginalized groups, such as children suffering from food insecurity who struggle to have even two meals a day, while inmates who committed heinous crimes receive three full meals daily funded by taxpayers. Comments from netizens include, "The victims probably can't even eat properly," "Even I can't afford Bifidus because it's expensive," "Better than military or school meals," and "They'll probably gain weight and come out healthier." In response, one netizen stated, "If the meal plan is poor, it becomes a human rights issue that cannot be helped."
Previously, media reports noted that Jeong Yoo-jeong, even while in the detention center, was eating three meals a day well and sleeping soundly, showing no signs of psychological disturbance.
