Fukushima Governor: "Korea's Reaction to Contaminated Water Has Changed Significantly"

"Explanation↑ Important to Promote Safety"

Masao Uchibori, Governor of Fukushima Prefecture, stated regarding the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (referred to by the Japanese government as treated water) that "the response from the Korean side has significantly changed after the Korea-Japan summit."

Governor Uchibori made this remark during a press conference on the 19th, while cautiously adding that "it is difficult to make a definitive judgment."

He said, "The way treated water is accepted varies among countries around the world," and evaluated that "the government is making efforts to disseminate accurate information, and certain results are emerging." He continued, "It is important to continue polite explanations using reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and deepen understanding."

Additionally, he requested the government through the Reconstruction Promotion Committee for the Great East Japan Earthquake to provide "accurate and easy-to-understand information dissemination" to inform both domestic and international audiences about the safety of the contaminated water. Governor Uchibori expressed, "I hope the Japanese government will fulfill its responsibility until the very end to prevent the spread of new rumors."
