Seven Eleven, Third Phase Demonstration of Autonomous Delivery Robot Service Underway

Ongoing Until October: Construction at Konkuk University and Bangbae-dong Area

Seven Eleven announced on the 18th that it will conduct the third demonstration test together with 'Newbility,' a startup specializing in autonomous delivery robot services.

Seven Eleven will carry out the autonomous delivery robot service demonstration test until the end of October around Konkuk University Seoul Campus and Bangbae 1-dong area. This project is part of the 'Demand-tailored Service Robot Development and Distribution Project' led by the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Seven Eleven has previously conducted two demonstration tests with Newbility in the Seocho-dong and Bangbae-dong areas.

In this third demonstration, a commercialization test of a complex delivery model using multiple robots across multiple stores will be conducted in a more advanced manner. The delivery area has been expanded from residential neighborhoods to university areas (Konkuk University), and the number of operating delivery robots 'Newbee' has increased from 3 to 5. Including the university campus as a delivery zone in this third test reflects the growing demand for short-distance deliveries near university areas. When ordering within Konkuk University, customers can designate a specific building on campus to receive convenience store products via autonomous delivery robots.

Seven Eleven will also test the ordering method of the robot delivery-exclusive platform 'Newbee Order' during this test.

A Seven Eleven official stated, "As the importance of convenience store short-distance delivery has increased through the COVID-19 pandemic, expectations for convenience store delivery models utilizing robots are growing even more. We will strive to enhance both customer convenience and franchisee profits by establishing a next-generation robot delivery system applying digital technology."
