Cho Tae-yong "Japanese side mentions transparent communication and cooperation on Fukushima contaminated water"

Cho Tae-yong, Director of the National Security Office, stated on the 15th at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Tokyo regarding the issue of the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (referred to by the Japanese government as treated water), "We heard from the Japanese side that they cooperated with the inspection team's visit and that they will continue transparent communication and cooperation in the future."


After meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in the afternoon, Director Cho told reporters, "The contaminated water issue is an important matter concerning the health and safety of the Korean people, and I requested Japan to maintain high transparency and cooperate with Korea."

Having arrived in Japan the previous day to attend the South Korea-U.S.-Japan National Security Advisors meeting, Director Cho also held separate bilateral talks with Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, and Takeo Akiba, Director of Japan's National Security Secretariat.
