Jangseong-gun to Conduct Preemptive Education on Rice Bacterial Leaf Blight on the 16th

Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it will conduct a preemptive education session on rice bacterial leaf blight prevention on the 16th at the main conference room of the Agricultural Machinery Training Center at the Jangseong Agricultural Technology Center.

Rice bacterial leaf blight is a bacterial disease transmitted through water, and as the name suggests, it causes white spots to appear on rice leaves, gradually causing the crops to wither.

Once it occurs, it tends to infect the same areas repeatedly over several years, making prevention-focused control essential.

Ahead of the rainy season, the county will conduct comprehensive pest and disease control and water management training to enhance farmers' control capabilities. In March, focused training on rice seed disinfection and seedling management was conducted.

An official from the Jangseong Agricultural Technology Center stated, “This year’s rainy season is expected to bring heavy rainfall, so special attention must be paid to rice farming. Since rice bacterial leaf blight is difficult to treat once it occurs, we plan to devote all efforts to proactive control.”

Meanwhile, based on the results of a full survey of fields with habitual rice bacterial leaf blight conducted earlier this year, the Jangseong Agricultural Technology Center plans to complete the supply of preventive agents to rice farmers within this month, with control operations scheduled to begin early next month.
