[Special Stock] Bioptro Breaks Japan's Global Monopoly with AI GPU Core Component FC-BGA Technology

BioOptro is showing strong performance. The company is expected to continue improving its results as it has become the second in the world to develop BBT (Bare Board Tester) equipment specialized for FC-BGA products.

As of 9:46 AM on the 15th, BioOptro is trading at 8,830 KRW, up 19.32% from the previous day.

BioOptro is a KOSDAQ-listed company specializing in the production of BBT equipment. BBT (Bare Board Test) is a process that inspects the electrical circuits of a substrate and determines good products before the SMT process, where components are mounted.

BBT equipment for FC-BGA inspects the electrical connectivity of internal circuits within the PCB. BioOptro developed this equipment by specializing the general PCB BBT equipment it has focused on producing for 20 years for FC-BGA products. This development is the second in the world, following Japan's N company.

Jung Hyun Cho, a researcher at Hana Securities, explained, "BBT equipment is the most important core equipment for yield and product performance testing," adding, "Among PCB post-process equipment, it requires the highest level of technology and development capability." He continued, "On the 7th, BioOptro announced the launch of new FC-BGA BBT equipment," and added, "Globally, the only company manufacturing BBT equipment for FC-BGA is Japan Electronics."

Researcher Cho emphasized, "It is significant that BioOptro succeeded in development as the second in the world," and said, "The new equipment was developed after completing tests with several domestic customers since the second half of 2021, and it has a higher unit price compared to existing equipment, which will serve as a growth engine in the future."

FC-BGA (Flip Chip BGA) substrates are products that apply flip chip technology to BGA packages, physically connecting the pins of the BGA package to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). Among PCB product groups, FC-BGA substrates require the highest level of technology and are widely used in high-density and high-speed IC packages. Their application range is expanding especially in mobile devices (AP), computers (CPU, GPU), and communication equipment. The recent explosive increase in FC-BGA demand is due to advancements in cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and data centers. Recently, Nvidia adopted FC-BGA for AI GPUs.

Major customers include domestic companies such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Daeduck Electronics, LG Innotek, Simtek, KCC; Japanese companies Ibiden and Shinko Electric; Taiwanese companies Unimicron and Nanya; Chinese companies CCTC and Fast Print; and more than 20 other leading companies worldwide.

BioOptro is currently conducting prototype testing and joint development with leading domestic FC-BGA manufacturers and is simultaneously expanding mass production systems and facilities to respond to large-scale orders from each manufacturer. The company is also conducting sales through distributors in Asian regions such as Taiwan and China. It is expected to strengthen competitiveness in the Asian market with the launch of domestically produced BBT equipment. Demand for FC-BGA continues to increase as advanced technologies such as IoT, AI, cloud computing, and data centers develop.

Researcher Cho predicted, "Considering FC-BGA new plant expansions by LG Innotek and Daeduck Electronics' fourth investment worth 270 billion KRW, tight supply of BBT equipment from Japanese companies is expected." He explained, "BioOptro is the only domestic company to localize FC-BGA BBT equipment," and added, "It will be possible to secure domestic market share based on price competitiveness."
