Chicken Breast Sales Increased by 54.5% from January to May
CU announced on the 15th that it will launch 'Dakgaseumsal Deuktem Black Pepper' through its ultra-low-priced private brand (PB) Deuktem Series.
Dakgaseumsal Deuktem Black Pepper is a high-protein product with 23g of protein per 100g, offered at a shocking price less than half that of the current top-selling similar product.
Earlier this year, CU searched for processed food manufacturers and reached an agreement with a domestic poultry processing specialist to launch the product. This company handles everything from slaughtering to deboning and processing, enabling CU to enhance the quality and price competitiveness of the finished product to its desired level.
During product development, CU conducted multiple blind tests comparing products sold on the market to find a popular taste that is enjoyable without any additional sauce or dressing. They applied the sous-vide method (a cooking technique using high-temperature steam) to further enhance the tender texture and mild flavor. After launching the Black Pepper flavor, CU plans to expand the product lineup with an Original flavor.
According to CU, the sales growth rate of chicken breast compared to the previous year was 75.2% in 2021 and 40.3% in 2022. From January to May this year, it recorded 54.5%, maintaining steady growth.
A BGF Retail official said, “We are introducing Dakgaseumsal Deuktem, which maximizes cost-effectiveness, targeting the summer season when demand for protein and chicken breast rises significantly. We will continue to expand the Deuktem Series focusing on product categories with high customer demand to lead the convenience store shopping culture.”
