Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, has been selected as an excellent basic local government in the field of forestry in the 2023 joint local government evaluation conducted by the Korea Forest Service, receiving a commendation from the Korea Forest Service Commissioner along with a monetary award for excellence in addressing current issues.
Cheongsong-gun, selected as an excellent basic local government in the forestry sector in the 2023 joint evaluation of local governments.
The joint local government evaluation in the forestry sector is conducted by the Korea Forest Service targeting 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide. It evaluates institutions with outstanding performance in seven forestry evaluation indicators (such as forest disaster response and resource creation) in two categories: ‘Outstanding Performance Institutions’ and ‘Excellence in Addressing Current Issues.’ Based on the Korea Forest Service’s evaluation results, Gyeongbuk Province assesses the performance of 23 cities and counties within the province for the previous year.
In the 2022 joint evaluation indicators, Cheongsong-gun achieved excellent results in fostering healthy and sustainable forest resources, forest fire prevention performance, and forest pest control. In particular, by thoroughly monitoring forest fires through the operation of forest fire watchers and continuous forest fire prevention publicity, and leveraging the know-how gained from winning first place in the 2022 Gyeongbuk Province Ground Forest Fire Suppression Competition, the county minimized damage through systematic and prompt suppression of a forest fire incident (1 case, 0.69 hectares).
Additionally, Cheongsong-gun secured a budget of 120 million KRW to conduct a pine wilt disease prevention tree injection project targeting 54 hectares of forest. The county was recognized for its efforts in surveillance using the forest pest monitoring and control team and forest fire suppression helicopters, leading to its selection as an excellent institution in addressing current issues.
County Governor Yoon Kyung-hee said, “I feel great pride in being selected as an excellent institution in the government evaluation,” and added, “We will continue to provide forest services that benefit residents through proactive administration and do our best in promoting forestry work, including forest disaster prevention to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
