136 Billionaires Reside in New York City
2nd Hong Kong, 3rd San Francisco
"Advanced Industries and Culture Attract the Wealthy"
Which city in the world has the highest number of billionaires residing in it? According to a survey by the asset information company 'WealthX,' New York, the financial hub of the United States, ranked first.
On the 11th (local time), US CNBC cited WealthX's annual report and reported that as of last year, 136 billionaires reside in New York alone. Although the number of billionaires in New York decreased by 2 compared to the previous year, it still maintained its top position.
One reason New York attracts billionaires from around the world is that it is home to the headquarters of the New York Stock Exchange, the world's largest stock market.
Following New York, Hong Kong (112 people) and San Francisco, USA (84 people) ranked second and third. Hong Kong is Asia's financial hub, and San Francisco is home to the global tech business hub known as 'Silicon Valley.'
Hong Kong has long been popular as a residence for the super-rich and is also considered a city less affected by economic recessions. However, the report expressed some doubts about Hong Kong's future attractiveness.
This is because geopolitical conflicts such as the political rift following the direct enactment of the 'Hong Kong Security Law' by Chinese authorities and the US-China hegemony dispute could impact the city's culture and industry.
Meanwhile, San Francisco, home to major US big tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft, is reported to be the fastest-growing city over the past decade, thanks to the rapid growth of the tech industry.
Fourth place went to Moscow, the capital of Russia, and fifth place to London, Europe's financial hub. Following them were Beijing, the capital of China (6th), Los Angeles (LA), USA (7th), Singapore (8th), Shenzhen, China (9th), and Mumbai, India (10th).
According to CNBC, all cities ranked in the global top 10 are key cities of major powers and already globalized metropolises. The media emphasized, "Opportunities in advanced industries, culture, and lifestyle continue to be key factors attracting wealthy individuals to these cities."
