"Vision Pro, No Magical Solution" Criticized
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, responded to Apple's mixed reality (MR) headset 'Vision Pro.' He said it was much more expensive compared to their own product and lacked noticeable innovation.
On the 8th (local time), according to US IT media 'The Verge' and others, CEO Zuckerberg said at an employee meeting held at Meta headquarters in Menlo Park, California, "There is no magic solution in Vision Pro," adding, "It is seven times more expensive than the recently announced Meta Quest 3 headset."
Meta released the virtual reality (VR) headset Meta Quest 3 on the 1st, ahead of Apple. The price is $499 (about 640,000 KRW), approximately seven times cheaper than Vision Pro ($3,499, about 4,520,000 KRW). According to Meta, Meta Quest 3 is 40% thinner than its predecessor, providing a comfortable fit, and its display and resolution performance have been significantly enhanced.

Regarding this, CEO Zuckerberg emphasized, "Apple's recent announcement shows the difference in values and visions pursued by the two companies," and added, "Meta's goal is to provide products that are accessible and reasonably priced for everyone."
He said, "Our vision for the metaverse is fundamentally social, but Vision Pro seems isolated," adding, "Apple's approach may be a future version of computing, but it is not the way I want."
He also pointed out that Apple's headset lacks innovation that distinguishes it from competitors' products. He said, "There was no solution to physical laws we have not yet researched," adding, "This is a good sign for us."
Earlier, Apple CEO Tim Cook also mentioned that Vision Pro is not a product for general consumers. In an interview with US ABC's 'Good Morning America' on the 6th, he said, "People will make different choices depending on their financial situation," and added, "I am not sure if Vision Pro is appropriately priced for general consumers."
However, he emphasized, "Vision Pro is a device that allows you to experience 'tomorrow's engineering' today," and said, "Considering the depth of engineering inside the headset and support for video beyond 4K, it costs money but is worth it."
