Gang Jong-man, Mayor of Yeonggwang County, Visits Peach Harvest Site... Listens to Difficulties

Gang Jong-man, the governor of Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, visited peach-growing farms where harvesting in greenhouses was in full swing on the 7th to encourage farmers and listen to their difficulties.

According to the county on the 9th, although the general shipping season for peaches, one of the six major fruits in Korea, is after July, this year’s Yeonggwang-gun peaches were cultivated inside facility greenhouses and the first shipment was made at the end of last month.

All peaches are being shipped sequentially to the Seoul Agricultural Products Wholesale Market. Currently, individual sorting is being conducted by each farm, but in the future, quality will be standardized and brand awareness further increased through the establishment and operation of a joint sorting center.

The early shipping time and size are important factors determining the price of peaches. Geographically located in the southern region compared to other facility-cultivating counties, Yeonggwang-gun has advantages in early shipping and heating cost savings.

Methods to improve cultivation, such as increasing fruit size, will be enhanced through demonstration cultivation and experiments conducted by the Agricultural Technology Center.

Governor Gang Jong-man said, “In response to climate change, we will nurture peaches with high sugar content and good quality as Yeonggwang-gun’s future food source through continuous investment.”
