President Yoon Suk-yeol encouraged the South Korean U-20 men's national soccer team on the 9th, saying, "The leadership of Coach Kim Eun-jung, who led the team to the semifinals of the U-20 World Cup, and the fighting spirit of the players gave hope and courage to the people."

In a message posted on Facebook that morning, President Yoon said, "The Republic of Korea U-20 national soccer team fought well."

President Yoon also said, "When you overcame yourselves and surpassed your limits, both I and the people of Korea were deeply moved," adding, "If you never lose your fighting spirit and faith under any circumstances, the path you desire will surely appear. You are the future of Korean soccer."

He further stated, "I will cheer for your challenge together with the people. Fighting!"

The U-20 soccer team lost 1-2 to Italy in the semifinals of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup on the same day, conceding one goal each in the first and second halves.

The team, which succeeded in reaching the semifinals for two consecutive tournaments following the 2019 Poland event, will play the third-place match against Israel at 2:30 a.m. on the 12th.
