Fukushima Special Committee Formation Plan to be Submitted Next Week

On the 8th, the ruling and opposition parties agreed to conduct a parliamentary investigation into the Central Election Commission's (CEC) preferential hiring of children and the suspicion of covering up North Korean hacking. They also decided to form a special committee (Special Committee) on the contamination of water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

On the same day, Lee Yang-su, the senior deputy floor leader of the People Power Party, and Song Ki-heon, the senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office in the afternoon and stated, "The National Assembly will conduct a parliamentary investigation to uncover the truth and prevent recurrence regarding the CEC personnel corruption and the suspicion of covering up North Korean hacking." They also said, "The National Assembly will form a Fukushima Special Committee and hold hearings."


The ruling and opposition parties aim to submit the parliamentary investigation request for the CEC to the National Assembly next week and have it processed at the plenary session scheduled for the 21st. They also plan to submit the proposal for forming the Special Committee on Fukushima nuclear wastewater contamination next week. After submitting the proposal to the plenary session and obtaining approval, they plan to form the Special Committee members and hold hearings.


Senior Deputy Floor Leader Lee Yang-su said, "The chairmanship will be alternated between the ruling and opposition parties," adding, "The People Power Party will chair the CEC parliamentary investigation Special Committee, and the Democratic Party will chair the Fukushima Special Committee."


The parliamentary investigation request will be jointly submitted by the ruling and opposition parties. Regarding the subjects of the Fukushima hearings, further discussions will be held later.
