Sixty cases of jeonse fraud-related damage have been reported in Daejeon. The scale of the damage is estimated to reach 6 billion KRW.
On the 1st, Daejeon City has been operating a “Jeonse Damage Support Task Force” in line with the enforcement of the “Special Act on Support for Jeonse Fraud Damage.”
The task force conducted a total of 150 consultations from the 1st to the 7th, receiving reports of jeonse fraud damage from 60 citizens.
After reviewing the submitted documents, the task force plans to forward them to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport within 30 days. The Ministry will notify the tenants and Daejeon City of the review results after committee deliberation and resolution within 30 days.
If recognized as a victim of jeonse fraud by the Ministry, support under the Special Act can be received, including suspension and postponement of housing auction and public sale, priority purchase rights, credit recovery, and emergency welfare support.
The support targets for jeonse fraud damage are tenants who have completed housing delivery and move-in registration, received a fixed date, and whose lease deposit is 500 million KRW or less, or where the landlord appears to have no intention of returning the deposit, or where multiple tenants have suffered or are expected to suffer non-repayment damages.
If the determination of jeonse fraud victim status is not accepted, an objection can be filed. In this case, tenants must file the objection within 30 days from the date of receiving the decision, and the Ministry’s committee will conduct a re-examination within 20 days of receiving the objection and notify the final result to the tenants and Daejeon City.
Lee Taek-gu, Deputy Mayor of Daejeon City, said, “From the first day of the Special Act’s enforcement through the weekend, inquiries and visits from victims of jeonse fraud have continued,” adding, “Daejeon City recognizes the victims’ unfortunate circumstances and the seriousness of jeonse fraud, and will maintain organic communication with the government while making every effort to support the victims.”
