Operation of InterBattery Europe 2023 Promotion Booth, Targeting the European Battery Market
Promoting Cathode Material Production Hub Pohang, Secondary Battery Industry Capability and Corporate Competitiveness
Pohang City is making every effort to be designated as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex for secondary batteries and is starting to explore overseas battery markets, beginning with targeting the European market.
Pohang City has been actively promoting itself as the optimal location for a secondary battery specialized complex at the Gyeongbuk Province investment attraction pavilion during 'InterBattery 2023,' held last March at COEX in Seoul.
The city will participate in ‘InterBattery Europe 2023,’ held for three days from the 14th to the 16th at the Messe Munich Exhibition Center in Germany, operating a promotional booth.
‘InterBattery Europe 2023’ is a secondary battery specialized exhibition held overseas for the first time, jointly hosted by the Korea Battery Industry Association, COEX, and KOTRA. It aims to strengthen the value of the K-battery industry, which has been built through the InterBattery exhibition previously held only in Korea, while securing a foothold in the European market.
Following active promotion of Pohang City as the optimal location for the secondary battery specialized complex at the Gyeongbuk Province investment attraction pavilion during ‘InterBattery 2023’ held at COEX in Seoul last March, the city has prepared a separate promotional booth for this European exhibition as well.
More than 100 companies related to secondary batteries will participate in this exhibition, setting up 200 booths, and the number of visitors is expected to reach approximately 85,000.
The city plans to actively promote the capabilities of Pohang’s secondary battery industry, which is emerging as a hub for cathode material production together with Gyeongbuk Province, and the competitiveness of companies such as EcoPro and POSCO Future M to the global market.
Additionally, Pohang will present its vision to become a central hub for establishing a global battery standard platform, introduce Pohang’s investment environment to key overseas secondary battery industry stakeholders, and focus on understanding overseas market trends.
In particular, PM Grow, located in the Blue Valley Industrial Complex, and Mintec, a tenant of the Secondary Battery Integrated Management Center, will participate in the exhibition to promote their secondary battery technologies and engage in investment attraction activities.
Pohang City has applied for the secondary battery sector designation as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex promoted by the government and is mobilizing all regional capabilities to attract this designation.
Based on strengths such as building a full-cycle ecosystem for secondary battery materials, the city expects to attract large-scale investments amounting to 14 trillion KRW and contribute to stabilizing the supply chain of secondary battery materials and strengthening national competitiveness through the production of 1 million tons of cathode materials by 2030. Using this as a foundation, Pohang is actively promoting itself as the optimal city for the secondary battery specialized complex.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “Through this event, we will actively showcase Pohang’s high potential along with the excellent capabilities and infrastructure of industry, academia, and research to the global market,” adding, “We will actively support the new future of Korea’s secondary battery industry by targeting the global market.”
