Court Sentences Branch Chief to 2 Years Imprisonment for Shooting Steel Balls at Non-Union Members of Cargo Solidarity

On the 8th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Western Branch of Busan District Court (Chief Judge Lee Jin-jae) announced that it sentenced Branch Chief A of the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Cargo Solidarity under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions to two years in prison for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and obstructing business.

Two organization chiefs, who were also indicted on the same charges, were each sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 3-year probation and 80 hours of community service.

They were prosecuted for firing steel balls twice with slingshots at cargo trucks driven by non-union members while traveling in a van around Busan New Port area in Busan last November.

It was investigated that Branch Chief A fired the steel balls from the back seat of the van, while the other organization chiefs were either driving or sitting in the front passenger seat.
