[One Day Walk] The 'Forgotten Railroad' Returns to the Blue Park... Gongneung Station

Today's walking course heads to Gongneung Station on Line 7. Here, there is the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail created along the old Gyeongchun Line railway. The Seoul Metropolitan Government carried out a project to convert the abandoned Gyeongchun Line railway into a park, completing construction of the 1.9 km section between Gongdeok 2nd Railroad Crossing and Yuksasamgeori, and opened it to the public in August 2015. Near Gongneung Station, there is also Gongneung Cheolgil Park, and at the old Hwarangdae Station, there is Hwarangdae Railroad Park.

Walking about 300 meters from Exit 2 of Gongneung Station, you will find Gongneung Dokkaebi Market. Gongneung Dokkaebi Market, a traditional market in Gongneung-dong, offers a wide variety of goods and food at affordable prices. The market is laid out in a straight corridor style, making it convenient to browse, and it has a large entrance on the main street, making it easy to find at a glance.

At the end of the market, you will immediately come to Gongneung Cheolgil Park. This is the first phase section of the abandoned Gyeongchun Line railway park project in the Seoul area. While preserving the original form of the railway, various flowers and trees have been planted around to beautifully decorate the area.

The first phase section of Gongneung Cheolgil Park ends at Yuksasamgeori. Opposite the railway park is the abandoned Hwarangdae Station, which has been renovated into Hwarangdae Railroad Park. The abandoned railway of the old Gyeongchun Line Hwarangdae Station, Seoul's last simple station, has been preserved as it was, showcasing a rare atmosphere in Seoul. The area around Hwarangdae Station is rich in greenery due to the nearby Korea Military Academy and Taegangneung, and there are many street trees, making it a pleasant place for a walk. Continuing toward Hwarangdae Station, passing Gongneung Neighborhood Park and entering Exit 1 of Hwarangdae Station concludes today's course.
