Base Fare Increase and Reduction of Late-Night Surcharge Hours
Following the decision to raise taxi fares in Gyeongnam Province, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will increase the basic taxi fare from 3,300 won to 4,000 won starting at 4 a.m. on the 10th.
This taxi fare increase follows the implementation of changes to taxi fares and rates decided by the Gyeongsangnam-do Consumer Policy Council on January 31. It is the first increase in four years since 2019.
The basic fare will increase by 700 won from 3,300 won to 4,000 won. The unit fare distance rate will change from 133 meters per 100 won to 130 meters per 100 won, and the time rate will be shortened from 34 seconds to 31 seconds. Additionally, the late-night surcharge period, which was originally applied from midnight, will be moved two hours earlier to start from 10 p.m., with the surcharge rate remaining unchanged at 20%.
To reduce disputes between drivers and passengers due to the fare increase, a ‘Taxi Fare Increase Notice’ will be posted inside taxis for one month. Until the adjusted fares are reflected in taxi meters, fares will be charged according to the ‘Taxi Fare Conversion Table,’ which will be immediately removed once the meter is updated.
Furthermore, to promptly respond to illegal activities such as unfair fare charges and refusal of rides, a ‘Taxi Complaint Reporting Center’ will be operated continuously. Strict measures will be taken against any illegalities found through regular inspections.
Lee Seung-ryong, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, stated, “Since taxi fares are rising for the first time in four years, we plan to actively promote the fare increase details not only inside taxis but also through the city’s website and newsletters to minimize inconvenience for taxi users.”
