Gimhae City Applies Taxi Fare Increase of 700 Won Starting June 10

Changes to Distance and Hourly Rates

The base fare for medium-sized taxis in Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, will be raised to 4,000 won starting at 4 a.m. on the 10th.

According to the city, this increase comes after 4 years and 2 months since April 11, 2019, and was finalized through the Gyeongnam Province Consumer Policy Committee on January 31. It was implemented following the changes in taxi fares and rates by Gyeongnam Province.

The base fare increased by 700 won from the previous 3,300 won. The distance fare changed from 100 won per 133 meters to 100 won per 130 meters, and the time fare changed from 100 won per 34 seconds to 100 won per 31 seconds.

The 30% surcharge for trips outside Gimhae City, the 20% late-night surcharge, and the 40% combined surcharge remain unchanged. However, the late-night surcharge period has been extended by 2 hours, now applying from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next day.

The combined surcharge will continue to apply to eup and myeon areas excluding the Dong district, Seoncheon district in Juchon-myeon, and the original and new town areas of Jinyeong-eup, as before.

The city stated that it will conduct sufficient public awareness campaigns to minimize transportation inconvenience and confusion due to the taxi fare increase.

Measures have been taken to promptly complete taxi meter repairs and inspections for drivers and taxi companies, and for the time being, taxi fare charts will be kept in vehicles to charge fares accordingly.

The head of the city’s Transportation Innovation Division said, “This adjustment reflects the increase in transportation costs due to changes in fuel prices and other expenses, and comprehensively considers industry management improvement, passenger burden, and worker treatment improvement. We have made the fares more realistic.” He added, “We will take this fare increase as an opportunity to further improve service quality and do our best to provide safe and convenient taxi transportation services to citizens.”
