Namwon Education Support Office Holds Education Governance Committee Meeting... Discussing Educational Development

Jeonbuk Namwon Office of Education (Superintendent Shin Byung-gi) announced on the 8th that it held the Education Governance Committee meeting on the 7th in the small conference room on the 2nd floor of the Namwon Office of Education.

The ‘2023 1st Education Governance Committee’ was attended by 14 members of the Education Governance Committee, including Chairman Moon Hong-geun, to discuss the promotion of appropriately sized schools and plans for educational development and improvement.

Chairman Moon emphasized, “From 2019 to 2027, the number of elementary and middle school students in the Namwon area is expected to decrease from 5,937 to 3,983, a reduction of 1,954 students (32.9%), resulting in four schools with fewer than nine students in total. This requires proactive and preemptive responses not only from the Office of Education and the committee but also from the entire local community.”

Superintendent Shin Byung-gi said, “The Education Governance Committee is meaningful in that the public and private sectors cooperate to find solutions to current issues in Namwon education,” adding, “Through communication and cooperation with the local community, we will enhance the democracy and expertise in educational policy-making and establish an effective educational cooperation foundation for the development of Namwon education.”

In particular, opinions from the governance council, including officials from Namwon City Hall and city council members, are well reflected in related organizations to ensure that it operates as a central framework for educational cooperation in Namwon. The term of office is until October 31, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Namwon Education Governance Committee consists of a total of 14 members, including 10 external members such as principals and vice principals within Namwon and 4 ex officio internal members.
