On the 7th, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, commenced the expansion construction of the 2nd exhibition hall at 482 Jungdong-ri, Uiryeong-eup, where the existing Uiryeong Volunteer Army Museum is located.

While the current Volunteer Army Museum focuses on the theme of volunteer armies during the Imjin War, the 2nd exhibition hall will expand the theme to cover the entire volunteer army history from the late Joseon Dynasty to the independence movement period during the Japanese colonial era, becoming a dignified comprehensive volunteer army museum imbued with the spirit of patriotism.

This expansion of the 2nd exhibition hall, a campaign promise of Governor Oh Tae-wan in his 8th term, will involve a total project cost of 5.7 billion KRW, including national and provincial funds from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to support the establishment of public museums for cultural facility expansion.

To facilitate the expansion, the county passed the preliminary feasibility evaluation for establishing a public museum by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020, obtained the implementation approval for the Uiryeong-gun management plan in March 2023, and began full-scale construction in June.

Governor Oh said, “Through the expansion of the Volunteer Army Museum, we will ensure that visitors can fully experience the beginning and end of the noble spirit of the volunteer army in Uiryeong-gun, the sacred place of the volunteer army.”

The opening of the 2nd exhibition hall of the Volunteer Army Museum is scheduled for June 1, 2024, coinciding with Volunteer Army Day.
