The film 'Geomi Jip' (Spiderweb) has been invited to the competition section of the 70th Sydney Film Festival, Barunson E&A announced on the 7th.

'Geomi Jip' was screened in the non-competitive section at the 76th Cannes Film Festival held last month and has now received an invitation to the Sydney Film Festival. Director Kim Ji-woon is scheduled to attend the official screening and participate in a Q&A session with the audience.

The invited competition section is the category competing for the top prize, the Sydney Film Prize, featuring 13 films including Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Monster', this year's Cannes Jury Prize winner 'Fallen Leaves' (director Aki Kaurism?ki), and 'Fast Lives' (director Celine Song).

Among Korean films, Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Broker' (2022) was invited, and Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' (2019) has previously won in the competition section.

Nasen Moodley, Executive Director of the Sydney Film Festival, stated, "I was absolutely captivated by 'Geomi Jip' and couldn't stop laughing throughout the screening," adding, "Above all, the brilliant and insightful depiction of the pain of creation is an astonishing work," explaining the reason for the invitation.

'Geomi Jip' (director Kim Ji-woon) is set in the 1970s and depicts the story of Director Kim, who believes that reshooting only the ending of the completed film 'Geomi Jip' will make it a masterpiece. Amidst harsh conditions on the verge of madness, including censorship and actors and producers who do not understand the changed content, the filming pushes forward. Actor Song Kang-ho plays the director.
