‘The Expo Embraced by the World, Busan's Sea Will Embrace It!’ … Busan Culture Billboard Summer Edition Posted

From the 6th to August, Creative Works by Shin Myeongrang Displayed on City Hall Exterior Wall

Busan City has selected the text for the 2023 ‘Busan Culture Billboard Summer Edition’ and will display it on the exterior wall of the Busan City Hall from the 6th through August, for about three months.

The summer edition text was chosen from a total of 836 submissions received during the month of April through a public contest. After a fair evaluation by the Busan Writers' Association, the original work by Shin Myeong-rang was finally selected. Shin Myeong-rang’s creative text is “The Expo embraced by the world, Busan’s sea will embrace it too!”

Lee Seok-rae, the head judge (Busan Writers' Association), said, “While texts with unique poetic composition and metaphorical expressions were good, since the 2030 Busan World Expo will be decided this year, we agreed that promoting the Busan Expo during the summer was most appropriate. We placed emphasis on the phrase that expresses the aspiration for the Busan Expo, and among the original works, there were also passionately agonized texts, which raised the level of the Busan Culture Billboard text contest,” he commented on the judging process.

Kim Bong-cheol, Director of the City’s Architecture and Housing Bureau, stated, “We hope that the hopeful message for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid will be shared and supported not only by the citizens of Busan but by all the people of the nation.”

The call for submissions for the Busan Culture Billboard Autumn Edition text is scheduled to be held in July. The text should be a short phrase within 25 Korean characters that allows citizens to feel love, hope, and warm affection. Both original works and excerpts from literary works are acceptable.

As prizes, ▲one winner will receive a cultural gift certificate worth 300,000 KRW, and ▲17 runners-up will each receive a cultural gift certificate worth 30,000 KRW.
