Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Mun-heon) has prepared a special walking tour program revisiting modern cultural arts history every weekend from this month until July 9.

The 2023 Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum Modern Culture Tour ‘Modern Masil’ explores Buam-dong, Cheongun-dong, and Seochon areas, where the Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum (119 Changuimun-ro) is located.

It is designed as a meaningful time walking along the life of the eternal young poet Yun Dong-ju, his precious works, and the traces of Jongno writers and artists who pondered and practiced alongside him in those days.

The program operates according to three detailed courses based on themes: ▲ Dongju and Modern Writers ▲ Modern Literature and Architecture ▲ Walking Modern Jongno with Notable Figures.

The first course, ‘Dongju and Modern Writers,’ which enjoys Yun Dong-ju’s life, literature, and modern city Jongno, is divided into Short Masil and Long Masil. If you want to take a quick look during a busy schedule, choose Short Masil; if you want to participate leisurely, apply for Long Masil.

The second course, ‘Modern Literature and Architecture,’ is planned as a Literary Masil walking along the boarding house site where Yun Dong-ju stayed and the literary traces in the area, and an Architectural Masil exploring modern buildings built 100 years ago and the traces of writers related to those places.

The last course, ‘Walking Modern Jongno with Notable Figures,’ is divided into two: Literary Masil with writers and Architectural Masil with experts. Poet Jeong Hyun-woo, winner of the 4th Dongju Literary Award, will join the Literary Masil, and architect Son Yeom, a researcher of modern architecture, will join the Architectural Masil.

For detailed schedules and other information about Modern Masil, please refer to the Jongno Cultural Foundation website. Participation fees vary by course, ranging from free to 10,000 KRW. Applications and inquiries can be made through the Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum.

Until July 31, the exhibition ‘Yun Dong-ju and the Poets of Modern Jongno’ is also held at Mugaewon (4 Changuimun-ro 5ga-gil), one of the main courses of ‘Modern Masil.’ It highlights the daily lives and works of various writers active around Jongno, such as Yun Dong-ju, Jeong Ji-yong, Lee Sang, and Baek Seok, and plans to convey the historical and cultural value of this area to citizens.

Mayor Jeong Mun-heon stated, “It will be an excellent opportunity not only to feel Jongno of those days by walking along the traces of the poet Yun Dong-ju who became a star but also to learn about the history of culture and arts of modern artists.”
