Nowon-gu Youth Union Festival 'Cheongmiso' Held

Nowon-gu to Hold Festival Combining Three Existing Youth Events on the 9th from 1 to 6 PM at University of Science and Technology Stadium

Youth Artist Market, Youth Future Science Festival, Youth Festival Sowon, with Experience Booths and Events

Magic Shows Using Scientific Principles, Rapper ‘Outsider’ and BE’O’s Celebration Performances Add Excitement

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold the Nowon Youth Joint Festival ‘Cheongmiso’ at the main stadium of Seoul National University of Science and Technology on the 9th from 1 PM.

The district planned the joint youth festival to bring together the sporadically held youth events into a large-scale and substantial festival. The festival’s name ‘Cheongmiso’ is derived from the first syllables of Youth Artist Market’s ‘Cheong’, Nowon Youth Future Science Festival’s ‘Mi’, and Youth Festival Sowon’s ‘So’.

The festival will be held at the University of Science and Technology stadium in Gongneung-dong, divided into four zones. The main stage at the front center will host performances from Youth Festival Sowon, with booths for Nowon Youth Future Science Festival and Youth Artist Market on the left and right sides, and experience and event zones at the rear.

First, the ‘Youth Artist Market’ is a youth market. It is a place where young people can experience growth through mock entrepreneurship activities by donating their talents or planning and selling products themselves using their special skills.

This year, 12 booths will offer one-day classes and sell self-made works showcasing each youth’s talents such as face painting, nail art, resin crafts, metal crafts, and bead crafts.

The overall concept and event planning for this year’s market were handled by the Cheongwadae Planning Team, composed of 10 youths, while the Nowon Youth Press Corps (NYP) will document the overall festival and deliver diverse content by leveraging their own skills.

Next, at the ‘Future Science Festival’, visitors can find various booths and related exhibition works that foster interest and creativity in science. A total of 50 organizations, including 7 universities, local high schools, youth institutions and groups, and related companies, will participate with 93 booths.

Participants can experience drone soccer, virtual reality (VR) rides and kart driving, 3D printing, and other devices and software representing future technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, allowing them to understand trends and principles of future science and technology.

There are also various attractions themed around science. Magic shows using scientific principles, performances with 16 drones, and synchronized dances by humanoid robots will captivate the audience.

Lastly, ‘Youth Festival Sowon’ focuses on performances. It provides a platform for youths to showcase their talents and potential in culture and the arts.

The entire performance process was led by a youth cultural planning team of 20 Nowon-gu youths. Their active participation in conceptualizing the performances, planning events, recruiting performers, selecting guest singers, and promoting the festival adds deeper meaning to the event.

The performances will run on the main stage from 1:30 PM to 6 PM, starting with a science magic show and pre-performances by seven teams from Dongsan High School. The main show, hosted by ‘MC Seob-i’, a professional MC and YouTuber, will feature 10 youth club performances including cheerleading, band, and dance.

Special performances are also prepared. At 3:30 PM during the opening ceremony, rapper ‘Outsider’ will add excitement with a celebratory stage, and rapper BE’O, representing the MZ generation, will close the festival with a grand finale performance.

The Cheongmiso event and experience booths are open to all residents of all ages without prior reservation, allowing on-site viewing and participation.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We felt the need to systematically promote various youth-related events by bringing them together, which led to the planning of this joint festival. We will continue to provide opportunities for youths to showcase their talents and strive to create an environment where youths can be happy.”
