SKT Strengthens Benefits for Military Personnel in Honor of 'Month of Patriots and Veterans'

On the 4th, SK Telecom announced that it will offer various specialized benefits expressing gratitude to military personnel in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Armistice Agreement and the Korea-US alliance, as well as the Month of Patriots and Veterans in June.

SKT simplified the subscription process for military plans by partnering with the military ID verification app ‘Millipass,’ becoming the first domestic telecom company to do so. In addition, it prepared prize events and benefits available not only to active-duty soldiers but also to career military personnel.

First, SKT partnered with the military ID verification app ‘Millipass’?the first among domestic telecom companies?to reduce the hassle of verification procedures required for military customers when using communication services.

SKT operates a 20% discount system for military customers (0 Hero Discount System) and exclusive plans (0 Plan Superhero, 0 Plan Hero). To subscribe to these services, customers previously had to visit a store in person to submit official documents proving active-duty enlistment, such as enlistment notices or military service certificates, or upload them online via T World, which was inconvenient.

To simplify the subscription process, SKT established a system in May that allows military personnel to verify their status and subscribe to the ‘0 Hero’ service in real time on the mobile T World without issuing separate documents 24/7, through collaboration with Millipass.

Various specialized benefits have also been prepared for military customers who complete verification. These benefits are provided not only to active-duty soldiers but also to officers and non-commissioned officers. Until November 30, customers using the ‘0 Hero’ or ‘Direct Plan’ who complete military verification via the Millipass app will receive an additional 5GB of data every month for six months from the time of verification.

Additionally, military customers who complete Millipass verification regardless of their telecom provider will be automatically entered into a prize draw (for about 1,000 people) offering ▲limited edition posters of the idol group NewJeans ▲10,000 KRW gift certificates for CU convenience stores ▲5,000 KRW Naver Pay gift certificates. They can also enjoy ▲online exclusive discounts at the T Direct Shop ▲5% discount on the subscription product ‘Uju Pass’ for six months ▲40% discount on the annual OTT service ‘Wavve’ subscription, among other benefits.

SKT is expanding the data allowance of the military-exclusive plan and benefits ‘0 Hero’ so that active-duty soldiers can use data without worry. Since the 1st of this month, military customers subscribed to the ‘0 Hero Discount System’ (for plans with a monthly fee of 40,000 KRW or more) or ‘0 Plan Hero’ receive an increased daily additional data allowance outside working hours (after weekday work hours, weekends, and public holidays) from the previous 2GB (with a maximum speed of 3Mbps thereafter) to 5GB (with a maximum speed of 3Mbps thereafter).

During June, the Month of Patriots and Veterans, military personnel on leave, furlough, or outings will receive free movie tickets for Lotte Cinema. Tickets can be downloaded after Millipass verification and are valid until the end of July. Soldiers discharged in June will also receive one baro roaming coupon for 3GB (worth approximately 29,000 KRW) to assist with overseas travel.

Starting in August, additional coffee and movie benefits will be provided to active-duty soldiers who use the ‘0 Youth Plan’ and subscribe to the ‘0 Hero Discount System.’ SKT also plans to continuously expand benefits for military customers by selecting membership partners favored by soldiers and applying higher discount benefits.

SKT will also convey a special message of appreciation to military customers. On June 6, Memorial Day, SKT plans to display a logo image expressing gratitude to military personnel on the home screen of the ‘Mobile T World’ app.

Kim Ji-hyung, head of SKT’s Integrated Marketing Strategy, said, “In celebration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, we have prepared special benefits expressing our gratitude to military personnel. We hope that all Korean soldiers can enjoy these benefits without any additional conditions such as device changes.”
