The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and Ministry of SMEs and Startups are collaborating on this project.

Through this project, various customized residential spaces will be provided to respond to the crisis of local extinction and to encourage sustainable settlement of migrants.

Additionally, essential living services such as care, employment, and leisure will be supported in an integrated manner.

The Damyang Daedeok Maesan District Regional Vitality Town development project, promoted by the county in the area of 544 Maesan-ri, Daedeok-myeon, is a large-scale public-private partnership project covering 260,000 square meters, with a total project cost of 126.7 billion KRW, including 9.7 billion KRW in national funds, 3 billion KRW in local funds, and 114 billion KRW in private investment.

Targeting mainly retirees returning to farming and rural areas, the complex will include 500 residential units, an artist-specialized complex, rural study facilities, community facilities, sports facilities, and various other infrastructure within the complex.

In particular, the community facilities will include child and elderly welfare facilities, resident club rooms, and a communal dining hall, which are expected to result in very high resident satisfaction. The living infrastructure will be fully open and operated for use by all residents of the county.

Furthermore, the area has a geographical advantage of being only 20 minutes from Gwangju Metropolitan City, allowing access to existing infrastructure such as medical services, finance, and large supermarkets. This is expected to attract and settle middle-aged people seeking rest and leisure, establishing the area as a representative model of an eco-friendly rural village.

To achieve selection for this project, the county underwent three evaluations, including those by Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, starting from April.

In the final evaluation, County Governor Lee Byeong-no personally presented and explained the necessity of the project, making every effort to secure final selection.

Governor Lee Byeong-no stated, “The Daedeok Maesan Regional Vitality Town will greatly contribute to responding to the local extinction crisis in Damyang, resolving regional imbalance, and settling a living population linked to jobs from large-scale investment projects to be developed in the future. We will develop it into an attractive premium complex representing the nation.”
